English/Arabic translator, working on different types of texts for
different types of clients, including educational institutions,
governmental institutions and ministries, marketing firms, courts,
international organizations and NGOs.
September 2007- date:
Full-time Teaching Fellow at the University of Durham,
UK, teaching Arabic to BA students and Legal Translation, Practical
Translation and Interpreting to MA students.
August 2006 - June 2007:
Full-time Legal Translator at the GTZ Project of Yemen’s Support to
Access the World Trade Organization, funded by the European Union.
Tasks include translation into English of all Accession Submissions
to the WTO Secretariat, including Answers to Questions from WTO
members, translation of WTO-related materials into Arabic,
preparation of draft translations of Yemeni Laws and Legislations,
occasionally simultaneous interpretation in project-related events,
including seminars, workshops, presentations, etc, and preparation
of correspondences and reports in English.
April 2001 - July 2006:
Assistant Professor of English and Translation at the Yemeni
University of Science and Technology, teaching various subjects
related to translation including On-Sight Translation, Translation
for the Mass Media, Translation of Marketing Texts, Translation of
News, Simultaneous Interpreting, Consecutive Interpreting and
Electronic Tools for Translators.
